Jesus is in the midst of inspiring a revolution that completely transforms the world when He makes this proclamation:
“Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist.” When one of the most extraordinary teachers, influential leaders, and divisive figures to ever live speaks so highly of another man, one should wonder who this man is. What made John so significant? What was his mission and why was it such a threat to the established order? Was he starting a revival or a revolution? Like Jesus, John was an extreme radical unafraid to confront the crooked political/religious leaders of his day. John was not only a prophet, he was the last of the old prophets, a bridge between the Old and the New Testament breaking the 430 years of silence that existed since the time of the prophet Malachi. He was the only prophet to proclaim the coming Messiah and live to see Him in the flesh. In fact, according to Jesus John was much more. “What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? … To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.” Drawing from sacred scripture, historical documents, and archaeological findings, our graphic novel will illustrate John’s life growing up in first-century Judea as the son of a temple priest. The story starts out with John, imprisoned and in chains, being questioned by a mysterious admirer who’s seeking God’s will for his own life. This seeker is visiting John in hopes of finding out if John is truly a prophet. Days before John’s abrupt death, as he answers this man’s questions, we hear what it was like to celebrate Passover as a child, to be Jesus’s cousin, to live in the wilderness, to challenge corrupt authority, and to baptize the Messiah. Rotting away in prison, John begins to wonder if Jesus is truly the one who has come to set His people free. If He is, then why does He roam free performing miracles, while doing nothing to intervene for John? The magnificent art will immerse you in a historical adventure not for the light-hearted, but rather for those not afraid to find meaning even when one is required to endure tremendous suffering. Prepare yourself to be confronted by an emotionally driven, unexpected twist that will have you rethinking everything you just read. This is the story of a radical, whose life is as dramatic as any Shakespearian novel and more tragic than any Greek mythology. For John’s life is more than a prominent myth. John’s unusual life and tragic death played a pivotal role in the radical reexamination of why we live, and how we should die. |
